Airtravelers Hear Live Music At Nashville’s Airport
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — No need for an iPod at Nashville International Airport, air travelers can listen to live music.
This month, the country music capitol is adding another venue to its airport entertainment with the opening of Tootsie’s, an offshoot of the downtown honky tonk Willie Nelson once frequented.
The airport began offering music in the early ’90s as country was hitting a growth spurt. Now, musicians of every genre play its five stages most days of the week. The director of community affairs calls it “the best gig in town.”
A trade group says Nashville and Austin, Texas, have more live music than any other airport in the country. An Austin airport spokesman says the airport is a gateway, and it’s important that it reflect the culture and character of the city.
