PARIS (AP) — Airbus says it will build an assembly plant for civilian and military aircraft in Mobile, Alabama, if its partner Northrop Grumman wins an Air Force order for air tankers.

Airbus and Boeing are competing for a $40 billion contract to build 179 planes, with more likely.

The Air Force is set to award the contract on Jan. 31.
