Abused infant flown to hospital
LEWISTON, Idaho — A man has been arrested on child abuse charges after a 3-month-old baby was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital with life threatening head injuries.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday morning, the child was brought to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, and then flown to Sacred Heart.
The Lewiston Police Department conducted an investigation into the incident, and 21-year-old Derrick Tietze of Asotin admitted to shaking the infant on Sunday, as well as other occasions after becoming upset while babysitting.
The statement he provided to a child abuse investigator were consistent with the injuries the infant sustained.
Tietze was arrested for Felony Injury of a Child and lodged at the Nez Perce County Jail.
