$520K to Longview man for wrongful conviction
LONGVIEW, Wash. — A 45-year-old Longview man hopes to start a business with the half-million dollars he was awarded for being imprisoned for a decade on a wrongful conviction.
Thomas Kennedy told The Daily News he’s been scraping by on odd jobs since he was released from his rape sentence two years ago after his daughter admitted she had lied.
His fortunes turned two weeks ago when a Cowlitz County Superior Court judge ordered the state to pay $520,000 under Washington’s new Wrongful Conviction Compensation Act. The Legislature still has to approve the compensation.
Kennedy says he’d like to buy some land to operate an RV park and some storage units.
