Pope in U.S.: After a couple of days in Cuba, Pope Francis heads to the U.S. today. His first stop is Washington, D.C., where he’ll go to the White House. There, he’ll give the first papal address to a joint session of Congress. On Thursday, the Pope moves on to New York, where he’ll address the United Nations General Assemply, visit the 9/11 memorial and hold mass at Madison Square Garden. He’ll end his trip in Philadelphia this weekend.
Mead house fire: A Mead house fire that started yesterday afternoon flared back up early this morning. No one was injured in the fire at 11809 N. Highwood Ct. Officials say the fire at the home started yesterday afternoon and they thought they had it out. It then flared back up around 4 o’clock this morning when no one was home. Fire officials say they are confident this is not a suspicious fire. It is still under investigation.
Triple-fatal crash: Prosecutors revealed they Hayden man accused of causing a triple fatal crash had an unofficial blood alcohol level of three times the legal limit. He faces three counts of vehicular manslaughter. Mathew-Michael Baroni and his two young daughters were killed in the crahs. Baroni’s mother tells KXLY 4 News that her son loved everyone. Pauline Abrego says Turner has a big responsibility now to live as her son did.
Suspicious fires: Seven fires across Spokane County has officials searching for an arsonist. The first one started around 12:30 yesterday morning on Upriver Drive. Over the next several hours, firefighters responded to six more in the Valley. Officials believe they’re looking for an arsonist because they’ve eliminated natural causes and say the fires are in areas that cars don’t usually pass.
