3 snowshoers reported missing in Mount Hood forest

Searchers are out in the Mount Hood National Forest looking for three people reported lost over the weekend after they left on snowshoes for a winter camping trip.

About 20 rescuers resumed their efforts in northern Oregon on Monday morning after being called off a day earlier because of bad weather and darkness.

The Hood River County sheriff’s office says the three called 911 Sunday and reported having food and sleeping bags. The sheriff’s office says cellphone coverage is limited, and there’s been no contact since.

The sheriff’s office says one member of the party is reported to have what it called “extensive training and outdoor experience.”
