2023 Bloomsday Finisher Shirt Design contest now live
SPOKANE, Wash. — The contest to create the design for next year’s Bloomsday finisher shirts is now live!
The deadline to submit a design is September 16. The artist who submits the winning design will receive $1,000 and a lifetime of fame for designing one of Spokane’s most famous t-shirts.
“The Bloomsday Finisher shirt is one of Bloomsday’s proudest traditions,” said Jon Neill, Bloomsday Race Director. “The shirt design and color are kept secret until race morning. That secrecy, along with earning your shirt after completing the 12km course, makes the t-shirt one of Spokane’s most prized possessions.”
The Bloomsday finisher shirt is Spokane’s best-kept secret — and also one of the most cherished items in any runner’s closet. Shirts are often displayed along fence lines and front porches in the build-up to Bloomsday weekend.
Everyone can participate in the shirt design contest. Bloomsday receives submissions from graphic artists, design studios, art students, and elementary schools.

Bloomsday 2023 is on May 7. Bloomsday, founded in 1977, is one of the nation’s largest road races. In 2022, there were almost 30,000 people who signed up for the run, including virtual participants. Bloomsday is held annually on the streets of Spokane on the first Sunday in May. 2023 marks the 47th running.
