15 Insurgents Killed In Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan  — The number of militants killed by an airstrike in western Afghanistan Thursday is now up to 15.

Afghan officials say two local Taliban commanders are among the dead.

They say the raid targeted a militant cell involved in kidnappings, roadside bombings and other attacks, and that 15 hostages being held by the group were freed.

In a seperate announcement, NATO says another Taliban leader in southern Afghanistan has been killed.

NATO says the commander (Bismullah Akhund) was supplying weapons and roadside bombs that have killed Afghan and foreign forces in the southern Helmand province, where many insurgent attacks have been centered.
